Because God is your refuge, the High God your very own home, evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling.Psalm 91:9-11
Guarding us now with flaming sword, fellow soldiers serving the Lord. Only to Jesus Christ they bow, with flaming sword, guarding us now. Faithful servants, austere and wise, God’s messengers with blazing eyes. Swift like lightning, always fervent, austere, keen, and faithful servants. Encamped around, sent forth by God, it's only Jesus Christ they laud. Fighting battles in the background, sent forth by God and camped around. So brave and bold, making Christ known, unhindered by time, flesh, or bone. Ensuring that all truth be told. Making Christ known, so brave and bold. Gallant and strong with burning flare, holy angels, floating on air. Heralds of truth, singing Christ’s song, with burning flare, gallant and strong. Poetry Type: Swap Quatrain
Have you ever had an experience with an angel? When I was a child, I always thought of angels as sweet, chubby, rosy-cheeked girls with wings. It wasn’t until I began to read the Bible that I realized they are described so much differently than the way they are depicted often in modern society.
Soon after giving my life to the Lord, I found myself in constant spiritual warfare. One evening, it was so intense (objects were moving, strange sounds were happening in the house) that I left my house out of fear. I went outside as I was praying for God to protect me from this spiritual attack.
God allowed me to see that there were four angels protecting me and my house. For a brief moment, the veil was lifted, and I saw into the spiritual realm. The angels were positioned in four corners above the front yard in north, south, east, and west positions. It is difficult to describe what they looked like because I had never seen anything like it before. They were very large male figures, about 12 feet tall, wearing long, translucent-like robes. I didn’t see any wings but they were floating and hovering high above the ground. They were wielding flaming swords that were raised up toward the center and they looked ready to use them to protect my household. Their eyes were ablaze and their expression was focused and stern. They were clearly God’s warriors ready for battle.
I felt such a sense of peace knowing that I wasn’t in this spiritual battle alone. The angels didn’t speak to me, but I believe their presence there in that moment caused the demons (fallen angels) to flee. It was an amazing relief and a vision I have carried with me anytime I am facing spiritual warfare from the enemy. I know God has my back as He does for every believer.
Since that time, I have learned that discernment is of utmost importance if you do encounter an angel. Remember, God’s holy angels will always exhalt Jesus Christ and bring the peace of God. The angels worship Jesus. (Read Hebrews 1:1-14) They are created beings not to be worshipped themselves. They will not share another gospel other than Christ’s death and resurrection which brings reconciliation with God for all who put their faith in Him. (Read John 3:16) If you see, feel, sense, or hear anything different than the peace of God and the exaltation of Jesus, then it could be the devil in disguise. In 2 Corinthians 11:14, we learn that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light.
Spiritual warfare is real and something every Christian needs to be prepared for by putting on the full armor of God. (Read Ephesians 6:10-20) To protect yourself, it is best not to engage any spirit except the Holy Spirit of God.
I have hesitated sharing some of my spiritual experiences because I know it sounds a bit ‘out there’ to most people. Over the years, I have heard of similar stories of people encountering angels especially during times of grief or tragedy. Leave a comment to share your experiences!
