Light Shall Shine Out of Darkness!

Time is Short

There is no man who has power over the spirit to retain the breath of life, neither has he power over the day of death; and there is no discharge in battle [against death], neither will wickedness deliver those who are its possessors and given to it.

ecclesiastes 8:8

Memento mori, as they say,
Is future’s folly here to stay?
Knowing not what tomorrow brings,
The hope of yesterday still clings.

Life’s youth and beauty fade away
Memento mori, as they say.
The grass withers, the flower falls
Where is Pride when the Reaper calls?

Fragile lives, merely a breath,
Who has the power over death?
Memento mori, as they say,
Never too late to live God’s Way.

Eternal life, yours to embrace;
Repent, believe, receive His grace!
Now live for God and sieze the day.
Memento mori, as they say.

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.  And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.

  1. Great poem, Scotti, and so true. Time really is short, and only what is done for Christ will last. I’m kind of partial to quaterns, because they really drive the point home as you did in this poem. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Greetings. When we lay hold of the eternal and realize how short our time is here, it’s truly liberating. As Paul wrote, “To live is Christ and to die is gain.” This post should cause all who wait for Christs appearing to rejoice and to let go of those things which create distraction.

Have a blessed day in Jesus.

  3. Love it. To me, there is almost a casual urgency in this poem. “Memento mori, as they say.” Almost as if you are saying, “Life may be good and tomorrow’s another day, but don’t forget you are only human. Are you ready?” Am I ready? I pray that I am.

  4. “Never too late to live God’s way”–this is my war cry over the lies of the enemy in my loved one’s minds. I leave tomorrow to spend some time with my family, some of which are yet unsaved. Please pray for me!

  5. I’m always blessed here by the beautiful truths woven into the tapestry of your poems Scotti.

Be blessed and held in the Fathers loving arms!
