Your goodness leads me to repent
Enlightenment from heaven sent
I am feeble and sore broken
In my heart, Your Word has spoken
Falling short of holy judgment
Your goodness leads me to repent
Carnal resolve is not enough
So deadly is the vain rebuff
My only choice is to confess
And trust You with my brokenness
Your goodness leads me to repent
With Godly sorrow I do lament
I am an undeserving child
Desiring to be reconciled
To live no more in discontent
Your goodness leads me to repent
I feel so privileged to be able to tell you about my spiritual journey in this forum. I want to share with you a little bit about the day the Lord came into my heart. I was born again in Christ as an adult and, praise God, I will never be the same. What had kept me from surrendering to the Lord for so long? PRIDE, PRIDE and more PRIDE.Pride can take on many forms. For me, it was in the form of self-sufficiency, self-reliance and trusting only in myself. It is the opposite of humility. For most of my adult life, I believed there was a God but I wasn’t trusting in Him fully with my life. I think most would say I was generally a ‘good person’ by society’s standards. Unfortunately, I was trusting in my own goodness and my own good deeds to make myself acceptable before the Lord.
The Scriptures tell us that we all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. That is why we need a Savior. Jesus Christ traded His righteousness for the sins of the unrighteous! All those who put their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior become acceptable to God. Without Him, we have no hope in this life or the life to come. Repentance is turning away from ourselves and turning toward God with all of our heart, mind and soul. Do I still sin? Of course, as all humans do! Praise God, that He sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within the believer…to make us ever conscious of sin…to point out our helplessness to cure ourselves…to hate sin and turn away from it…to see clearly our need for His mercy….and to fix our eyes on Jesus instead.
Additional Scripture Meditations (KJV)
Psalm 38:8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
Psalm 32:5 I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Psalm 51:1-3 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God
About this type of poetry…. it is called a Quatern and this style orginated in France. With 4 stanzas and 16 lines consisting of 8 syllables per line, the first line is repeated in each stanza. The unique part about this form of poetry, I believe, is the repeated line moves down one line with each stanza and still needs to rhyme.

Hi scotti, I just read and commented your blog on The Shepherds Grace, was blessed so I looked up your “about ” and somehow ended up here. And again I am blessed. I love what you just wrote! Probably because I can relate. I am wondering if it is just our Father’s way to take His children, especially those who battle with pride and in the process of delivering them (ouch!) to give them an abundance of His grace, and just soak them in it? My pride was in my ability to be one of the best servants He had, and my “edge” on being just a bit more holy than others and of course, needing to “correct” those I found to be scripturally off (humbly though). He has shown me His grace, and I am just learning to let that beautiful grace flow through me and offer it to others who may be in need of it. Oh to be an empy vessel for Him to use. It is good to be reminded that it is His kindness (which draws us to repentance), His goodness and His Spirit and His everything that allows us to walk freely in His grace. Amen to repentance, and praise Him for forgiveness. Keep writing! This mother and homemaker needs it. Bless you.
I’m with you Prayfirst! Ugh, I lived the same way. I’m so much enjoying my revitalized life in Christ. I wish I heard the verse about his KINDNESS leading to repentance more. I made a logical decision to accept Christ some 18 years ago. The gospel was explained. I thought “oh, ok, so that’s how it works” and made my decision. I was taught poorly regarding relational areas as a new believer. It was drilled into me that it was my responsibility (for the good of others) to not let them off the hook if they strayed-a short leash. Its much more complex than that but believe me-it sucked, I feel like I became a new believer all over again about 5 years ago. Thank God. Sorry for rambling.
Joni, from a fellow ramblerererere, I am with you regarding making a “decision” years ago for Christ, learning all the wrong stuff, and then being introduced to the beautiful Person called The Holy Spirit only 5 years ago as well. We really can trust everyone else to be taken care of by The One who created them. Our Father loves them more then we do, and what a relief not having to be the “gatekeepers” to the Kingdom. I could quote Ezekiel 33 while half asleep!, ( being a watchman was exhausting, and eventually very lonely). Oh for new converts to be taught about the Love of Jesus and His grace and mercy first. The poem by Scotti keeps blessing me over and over again, bless you both!
Excellent Post and Poem on Repentance.
It speaks of so many virtues of Repentance.
Goodness, kindness, brokenness, Godly sorrow, confession.
All of which come from the Father’s Grace.
Much thanks,
Richard
About a month ago, you had a different song on this blog. What was it? Thanks.
Scotti, This poem (“Repent”) so draws my soul toward humility! May I have permission to post it on my website? I am looking for other people’s poetry to post there:

Absolutely, Erin! Thanks for asking.
God Bless,
