The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.” – Micah 6:8
To walk in kindness every day,
and love with true humility,
I need the Lord to show the way.
These conscious acts of empathy,
oft go against my tendency.
Alone I lack the pure design,
to lead with mercy is divine.

Mitzvah - The Hebrew word for "good deed" is מִצְוָה (mitzvá), which also translates to "commandment". While literally a commandment, it's commonly understood as a positive action, an act of kindness, or a good deed.

If such meaning could be generally understood, maybe the world would be better.

What a wonderful poem, Scotti! I will forever associate “mitzva” with Micah 6:8 now. That last couplet mingles humilty, truth, and earnestness in a euphonically memorable way. Lovely. (And thank you for joining in on the prompt.)

I’ve felt that gap between intention and instinct too. The pull toward humility and mercy is real, but so is the struggle. Your words are a quiet prayer I’ve whispered myself. ♥️
