The sun at noon was dressed in black that day,
Each ray of light was quenched by God’s own tears,
The sight of sin, His eyes could not endure,
The mystery of Godโs plan was underway.
What caused the universe such disarray?
A Father mourning His beloved Son?
Godโs poetry was hidden in plain sight,
The sun at noon was dressed in black that day.
As though the sky itself was in dismay,
A blood moon rose, a bloodied corpse set down,
While Innocence took suffering in my stead,
The mystery of Godโs plan was underway.
The sun at noon was dressed in black that day,
An unknown torment pierced my Saviorโs soul,
The mystery of Godโs grace was underway.

I wrote this in 2008 but I am reposting as a fitting poem for Good Friday.

Love the imagery, Scotti. I am always humbly amazed when I think that even if I was the only one, He still would have done it. It is especially impactful during the Easter season. That awesome mysterious gift of Grace…
We added a Tenebrae service to our Holy week service line up and I think this poem would be perfect as part of next year’s Tenebrae. Would you object to me presenting this poem to my rector?
Blessings,
David.

“While Innocence took suffering in my stead,”. So true Scotti . Thank you for posting this poem. And I’m glad you “liked” my latest post. What a wonderful Savior we have. We are truly a blessed people regardless of our circumstances and regardless of any afflictions we may have in this short life.
