Mitzva

The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.” – Micah 6:8

To walk in kindness every day,
and love with true humility,
I need the Lord to show the way.

These conscious acts of empathy,
oft go against my tendency.
Alone I lack the pure design,
to lead with mercy is divine.

Mitzvah - The Hebrew word for "good deed" is מִצְוָה (mitzvá), which also translates to "commandment". While literally a commandment, it's commonly understood as a positive action, an act of kindness, or a good deed.

  1. What a wonderful poem, Scotti! I will forever associate “mitzva” with Micah 6:8 now. That last couplet mingles humilty, truth, and earnestness in a euphonically memorable way. Lovely. (And thank you for joining in on the prompt.)
