We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. – Romans 5:3-5
As tears have drifted to my eyes,
I mused forgetful in my mind,
till thought on thought drew downward tear,
echoed voices of words unkind.
Wild toil and struggle interwound,
like jasmine climbing on the edge.
This poet sings of sorrow now,
along the stream and darkest ledge.
Alone an insufficient sound,
I struggle to deliver right.
Come back to dream along the brook,
of nature’s beauty day and night.
Since first I heard God’s footsteps close,
the morning sun forgot to die,
I feel God’s presence drawing near,
and angels sing, to heaven high.
The face of all the world has changed,
caught into love, and taught the whole.
With octaves of a mystic depth,
this song of hope is song of soul.
